SEPTEMBER 2013: Integrated Rule-Oriented Data-management System (iRODS)

iRODS is a community-driven, open source, data grid software solution. It helps researchers, archivists and others to manage (organize, share, protect, and preserve) large sets of computer files. Collections can range in size from moderate to a hundred million files or more, totaling to petabytes of data.

Major international projects using iRODS include the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA)/ USA; the Ocean Observatories Initiative (OOI)/ USA; the Southern California Earthquake Center (SCEC); the French national high-performance computing center CCIN2P3; the French National Library; the United Kingdom e-Science program; the European Union Sustaining Heritage Access through Multivalent Archiving (SHAMAN) project; the University of Liverpool; the Australian Research Collaboration Service (ARCS); the Centre for e-Research at King’s College London (CeRch) and the High Energy Accelerator Research Organization in Japan (KEK).

NovaGlobal has the honor of commissioning one of the very first iRODS systems in this region for a local university to support their researchers in protecting, preserving and archiving their large research data set.

AUGUST 2013: BIOSCIENCE HPCC FOR SECONDARY ANALYSIS

NovaGlobal had provided consultation and successfully built a Bioscience HPCC (High Performance Computing Cluster) for a local research institute that focuses primarily on understanding cellular mechanisms that underlie the development and physiology of plants, fungi and animals

The system comprises primarily of IBM large memory SMPs, IBM Storage and more than 50 Open Source applications. One of the key applications that have successfully been integrated to the HPC cluster is the CLC Genomics Server. Analyses are done from the CLC Genomics Workbench client installed at the workstation and connected to the CLC Genomics Server on the cluster, utilizing the cluster computing resources for more intensive computation.
